Nearly Didn't Make It! πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ(we had to run) | Goodbye Skopje & North Macedonia!

Today we leave North Macedonia – goodbye Skopje! This is a first for us, we had delays so had to run to make our connecting flight and only JUST made it in time so we could…⬇ More Below ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop β€”

North Macedonia has been an amazing experience, our time in Skopje has come to an end and it’s time for a new adventure and a bunch of new vlogs. Today we head to Belgium, but there’s a bit of tension with a delayed connecting flight and a sprint through the airport.

There was no direct flight option from Skopje to Brussels we could get on, so a 60 minute lay over in Vienna was needed… but when the original flight is delayed by 30 minutes it turns into a hell of a sprint in the airport! Things were made worse with needing to go through full immigration in Vienna because of the difference in EU/visa situations so we really had minutes left to sprint through the airport. To think that we’ve taken hundreds of flights in our lifetime and never needed to run like this, it’s probably about time haha. We also weren’t the only ones, there was a bunch of people in similar situations for connecting flights so the airport security zone and the areas around it would have been hilarious for other passengers watching everyone running of in chaos in all directions.

Hope you enjoy our misfortune anyway.

800den is a fixed price with the company you used to get to the international airport from any part of the city of Skopje – it's actually the cheapest taxi you can get, compared to other companies that will charge you by the kilometer which which end up costing at least 1500den (almost double) considering the distance of the airport from the city. Other cheaper option is the airport shuttle bus … but I am not exactly sure how much it costs or if it's frequent, although I've been seeing the airport shuttles a lot recently driving around the city.
Also great cardio before you get to all the chocolate, fries and beer goods in Belgium πŸ˜›

Really looking forward to this series. My grandfather was just 18 years old when he left his native Brussells to immegrate to the USA in early 1800's. Waffles, chocolate, fries, beer, architecture, history oh yeah this will be like what heaven and dreams are made of I am sure of it. 😁🍻

That was just some extra cardio before eating all the Belgian food πŸ˜›

I always say that if you travel for more than a few days and everything goes according to plan, you're doing it wrong ahah A change of plan sure is an inconvenience, especially when travelling is part of your job, but as long as you're safe, I guess one just has to accept that these things happen.

Oh yes, we've had to run in an airport! Twice in fact, and both on the same journey to India from London Heathrow last summer. First time was because my other half and my daughter got carried away in the duty free perfume shop at Heathrow – son and I were frantically trying to call them but they weren't picking up, so my son sprinted to collect them. Then (like for you here) the first flight was delayed and we had a 1 hour changeover in Doha which was reduced to around 20 minutes. So it was more running for us. But we made it! Looking forward to the Brussels vlogs. πŸ™‚

Belgium is 1 of our favorite countries! We will be back there in 2 weeks. Bruges is our favorite place to use as a home base there πŸ™‚ We will be in our first airport lounge next week too. Yea travel rarely goes as planned, we've only missed 1 connection so far, sure made the day interesting.

Omg yes this has happened to me when I was in Europe last year. Our flight from Athens to Doha, Qatar was delayed. So we literally had a sprint to the boarding gate to catch our long 17.5hr flight back to New Zealand. I swear, I have never ran so fast in my life πŸ˜‚
